The Dissenting Muse: How Literature Fights Authoritarian Worldviews

The Department of English, along with the Department of Journalism and Green Initiatives Club, organized a screening of the short Kannada documentary Huliyappa by first-time filmmaker Ms. Sourabha Rao. The 15-minute documentary, set in the remote hamlets of Uttara Kannada in the Western Ghats, explores the worship of a tiger-leopard deity during Deepavali, highlighting the community’s remarkable tolerance and coexistence with wildlife.

Specifically interested in examining the representation of marginal voices, cultural hybridity, and socio-historical contexts with postcolonial literature. In addition, her teaching approach emphasizes strengthening LSRW skills amongst students to enhance their overall proficiency in the English language. She has been active BOS and BOE member of Bangalore University, Bangalore North University, Jain Deemed to be University, and other reputed colleges.
